Be Filled With the Holy Spirit ~ Reflections from Acts

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”⠀

Acts 2:1-4 NKJV⠀

This is one of the most exciting events in scripture–the day the Holy Spirit comes in power. Pentecost!! I think there are real keys in this passage for operating in the power of the Holy Spirit. Here are three…

Unity of Purpose

First, they had unity of purpose. What we can’t achieve when we work together! Remember the Tower of Babel in Genesis? The people had ONE language and ONE purpose. There was nothing they couldn’t do.⠀

“And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.”⠀

Genesis 11:6 NKJV⠀

Pentecost was essentially the reverse of the Tower of Babel. The people now had a unified language and purpose which was of GOD and not of man’s design.

It’s For Everybody

Second, EACH person received the Holy Spirit–no exceptions. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit for all who asked. ⠀

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Luke 11:13 NKJV

We Get a New Language

Finally, we ALL get a new language. Whether it is a personal, prayer language or the gift of tongues (or both), we receive something new in our mouths that can shift heaven and earth. There is real power in being baptised in the Holy Spirit.⠀
