Made Righteous to Reign ~ The Roman Road

Righteousness is a free and marvellous gift from God made available to us through the atoning work of the cross of Jesus Christ. We could spend all our life studying righteousness and never plumb its depths! Let’s take a stroll through Romans 5 to see how our righteousness in Christ has established us to reign in life.⠀

Righteousness is…

First, let us define righteousness as “right standing with God”. This passage below speaks of it allowing us to be “reconciled” to God through our Lord Jesus Christ.⠀

“For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” ⠀

Romans 5:10-11 ESV⠀

Righteousness empowers…

Second, righteousness empowers our life. It produces hope amidst trials and tribulations. It sets us gloriously free from sin.

“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Romans 5:3-5 NKJV

Righteousness is lavishly given…

Finally, we need to understand that grace and righteousness are being lavishly poured out upon us continually so we may “reign in life”. When we reign, sin doesn’t. When we reign, circumstances shift. When we reign, sickness bows. To us? Of course not! These all bow to the Name of Jesus and the outworking of grace and righteousness in our lives.⠀

“For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.”⠀

Romans 5:17 ESV⠀

The word “receive” in the Greek for this passage is an active, present participle. In short, this means we KEEP ON receiving grace and righteousness continually. As we do, we WILL reign in life. Circumstances cannot keep us down when we continue to receive what is freely and abundantly given. If you are in Christ, you have been made righteous to reign. Does this topic encourage you?
