I have been mulling some things over with the Lord over the past few days. The temptation to give in to failure, discouragement and regret is high at present. I sense many of you are feeling this too. The truth is if God trusts me who am I not to trust me? God doesn’t make mistakes. He calls out the gold He’s already placed inside of you and me. God speaks to our true identity in Him.
You mighty man of valour!
Remember Gideon in Judges 6? He was hiding out threshing grain in secret to feed his family after oppression from the Midianites. Gideon was fawning and afraid and yet the Lord calls him a “mighty man of valour!”
“Now the Angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
Judges 6:11-12 NKJV
It may not have looked like it at the time but God could trust Gideon to do as instructed. He led them Israel to victory over the 135 000-strong Midianite army using only 300 men. What a miracle!
False judgement and old habits
Midian means judgement and I believe a spirit of condemnation and false judgement has come upon the people of the Lord intimidating them with regret, fear of failure and discouragement. Midian can also mean habit. I believe there has also been a temptation to slide back into “old habits” because we are wrestling with defeat.
I am being 100% honest and vulnerable with you here. I have really been wrestling with these feelings since Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) from a few weeks ago. There must be a great victory on the horizon or the enemy wouldn’t be resisting us so comprehensively. I believe MANY of you feel as I feel right now. DON’T GIVE UP!! We might be up to our knees in mud in the trenches but if we look up, we’ll see the Father smiling on us. We will see the Lion of the Tribe of Judah roaring over the maneuverings of Satan. We will also see the Holy Spirit’s hand of help extended to us. Just LOOK UP!! Look and see. He is faithful and He has made a way where there seems to be no way.
He TRUSTS you my friend with what He has placed within you. You can trust you too. If you, like me, need to repent for not trusting yourself with God’s plan for your life, pray with me:
Father, I thank You for the treasure You have placed within me. I trust Your plan for my life. I repent for not trusting myself with what You have given me to do. I shake off failure, regret and discouragement in the Name of Jesus. I command fear of any kind to leave right now! You spirit of intimidation, the Lord rebuke you! I will lift my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help (Ps. 121:1-2). I trust You completely today, Papa. Thank You for choosing me. You are faithful and true. Every word You speak is life to me. I choose life! In the mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.
