Frequently Asked Questions
The prophetic gift has been both a blessing and a point of confusion within the Church. These questions reflect some of the most common concerns, misunderstandings, and wounds people carry as they explore prophetic ministry today. Our responses are shaped by Scripture, pastoral responsibility, and a commitment to healthy, accountable formation.
Q1. What is the purpose of prophetic ministry?
Answer:
Prophetic ministry exists to bear faithful witness to God’s truth, character, and purposes, always in alignment with Scripture and the person of Jesus Christ. Its aim is not prediction, control, or status, but the building up of the Church in truth, love, and obedience to God. Prophetic ministry serves the Body; it does not position itself above it.
Q2. Can prophetic words be wrong or misapplied?
Answer:
Yes. Scripture itself calls for prophetic words to be weighed, tested, and discerned in community. Human limitation, immaturity, emotional projection, or lack of formation can affect how insight is heard or shared. For this reason, prophetic ministry must be practiced with humility, accountability, and a willingness to submit to correction.
Q3. Should prophetic words direct people’s major life decisions?
Answer:
No. Prophetic insight may bring confirmation, encouragement, or clarity, but it should never replace personal discernment, Scripture, prayer, wisdom, or pastoral counsel. Decisions concerning relationships, finances, calling, or major life direction belong to the individual before God, not to the prophet.
Q4. What are some common abuses associated with prophetic ministry?
Answer:
Abuses often arise when prophetic gifting is separated from character, accountability, and love. This can include controlling language, fear-based messaging, spiritual intimidation, untested authority claims, or pressure to comply with a “word.” These practices do not reflect the heart of Christ and are not endorsed within this ministry.
Q5. How does this ministry approach prophetic accountability?
Answer:
We believe prophetic ministry must operate within Scripture, community discernment, and appropriate oversight. No individual operates independently or without accountability. Prophetic insight is weighed, not weaponised; offered, not imposed; and always subject to pastoral wisdom and communal testing.
Q6. What posture should a prophetic person carry?
Answer:
Scripture presents prophets as people marked by faithfulness, humility, and surrender to God. As seen in Jeremiah and other biblical prophets, spiritual authority flows from obedience and reverence, not volume or self-assertion. Truth is spoken courageously, but carried with love, restraint, and responsibility.
